Arch on smartphone WITHOUT CHROOT!

Postby SORELOSER » Sat Jun 30, 2012 4:33 am

Recently I have upgraded my cell phone, and I am left with my old one. So a thought struck me...
Could I install Arch on it?

With some research I have found that indeed, many different distros work on android. The problem is: its a chroot and thats resource intensive. The only information that seemed close was the meego/maemo/mer/nemo debacle, and obviously with arch I could build from ground up and preserve what little resources this thing has.

I have a phone here (lg ally... it's nothing special) and it has no need to be a functioning phone anymore... is it possible to do an ACTUAL install on this rickety little handheld joke? I am willing to wreck it in the attempt and my final goal would be: Arch with openbox or maybe LXDE if everything is going good... and some emulators etc.

I am ready to learn and know there will be some ridicule for my ignorance on this matter... no biggy :)

Maybe just some links to get my research started. I have done some google searches, but I guess that I am not finding the proper keywords.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('SORELOSER', 'M')aybe just some links to get my research started. I have done some google searches, but I guess that I am not finding the proper keywords.

Here are a couple of links from xda.com and acertabletforums.com that I found. "We" are working on getting arch booting on our A200's. Supposedly some others got it running on the A500 but switched to ubuntu....

Those all showed as 404 because the URLs got cut off. the part that is replaced by an elipsis should be "showthread.php" without quotes. They should all still be active.

All the best,
