Looking for a device...

Postby sheetzam » Mon Aug 08, 2011 3:56 pm

I've been looking for an ARM based computer designed for use in a cluster, but haven't found what I'm looking for yet. So, I'm writing this to see if someone else is aware of such a device, or to see if others are interested in such a device.
It would be ARM based, have on board gigabit ethernet (POE a plus), maybe a gig of flash storage, and 512mb of ram, and serial out. That's it. Don't need video, sound, camera, usb, etc.. Just get it on the network, and let it do some processing.
Anyone know of such a thing?

The big question here is what kinda of processing. A Cortex -AX would handle some things much better, plus often they have more ram.

Well, to start with, I just want a simple platform for doing development work using the LAMP stack. Eventually I hope to write a game with the idea being each player will have their own node dedicated to their game interaction.
Really, I just want a cheap low power server without all the goodies that are getting packed in to the development boards.

Well... then you've got a minor issue with MySQL, and node'ing. That's going to be a nightmare.
