Thanks very much for your help :)

Will let you know how it goes once the cable arrived. Might help with fixing the installer for other people.

Thanks,

Ollie

So, the cable turned up today.

I opened up the NAS and the serial connector is different to the one on the link. Doesn't have the 2 pins in front, which i gather doesn't really matter as they're not used. I plugged the cables in (black = ground, red = 3.3v, white = tx, green = rx?), set the baud rate etc and it connected straight away on the pc, but i'm not getting any text come up.

Any ideas?

EDIT: I unplugged the serial adapter from the nas and plugged the power back in, but the lights just flicker on once and go off again. It does this when i press the power button too. When the serial adapter is plugged in the lights are solid but they are red, orange and green (before they would do this but then go solid green).

Remember that you have to cross tx & rx.

Try skipping the vcc
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
gnd : gnd
tx : rx
rx : tx
vcc : nothing
')

It doesn't seem to be pulling any power from the mains anymore. The lights just go straight off and i still don't get any text.

I really hope you made sure that was a 3.3v TTL and not a 5v TTL.

Good good. Then something else must be up at this point because you should be getting serial console.

Hi CookieM :D ,

I am in the same trouble as you, were you able to find a fix?

Basically, I tried to power the card through the usual power supply and the one of my USB to TTL connector (http://www.adafruit.com/products/954). However, when I tried to start a session with the COM port, I get absolutely nothing in the console.

I was wondering whether I need to have the HDD disk in the NSA320 during the operation as well as the network cable? To me it looks unnecessary but maybe I am missing something.

I was hoping to be able to install Archlinux without the serial connection following : http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv5/zyxel-nsa320 but obviously I missed something
Hope I will find a solution,

Cheers,

Tonkiplis
