Assuming you have the pins connected correctly (remember that TX & RX are crossed between computer and port!), it should fire right up if you have the right COM port selected.

I tried with the two different possibilities (only Rx, Tx and GND; Tx, Rx and GND + also directly alimented through the TTL to usb connector), but nothing appears in the window. I cannot even send any command to the card (i mean write text in the console). Do I need to have a HDD in the left slot when performing those steps?

I will take a multimeter from my work in order to check the female of the serial connector.

I am a it lost....

By the way, I am using this profilic usb to serial driver http://www.prolific.com.tw/US/ShowProduct.aspx?p_id=225&pcid=41 which also provides a check for the COM port, so I don't think that the COM port is the problem.

It tells me that the chip is a PL-2303 XA/HXA chip. Thus I think the connection works. How long do I need to wait in order to see something in the console window? I am also pretty sure of my serial connection settings (baud rate, parity, ...).

It seems that I have the same problem as CoockieM but I don't know whether and how he found a fix

:D Hope for the best, expect the worst =) :(

1) I hope the variant you got is 3.3v
2) jumper/cross the tx/rx pins of your serial adapter, and see what happens when you press keys.

Indeed, its a 3.3V and when I connect to it, the only thing I see is :

[SERIAL/DIRECT] CONNECTED TO PORT \\.\COM2 (115200-8N1)

... however, I am able to send binary/text file to the NSA... but not able to execute any command....

Ok, I found out 8-)

I forgot to put the hard disk in :o with a hard disk in the left slot (HDD1) it's working a bit better :o

1) Odd, it should work even without that. There is nothing in the uboot/firmware that is reliant.
2) ehm, what are you using as the terminal?

Reach that point, then nothing seems to happen:
