ZyXEL NSA320 booted from USB...once!

Install Arch Linux ARM on other devices.

Can you grab uImage and modules from Debian install
Remember Debian is /lib/modules and arch is /usr/lib/modules
If that works
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'zcat /proc/config.gz')
pastebin it, if it doesn't work do in Debian

Also can you try (before above)
setenv arcNumber 3339

Sorry pepedog - this Debian or Archlinux ?
I wich no problematic funkcionality kernel archlinux (support add to kernel - not all perfect funcionality - ethernet not working - its is fact - its core big problem). Not interested install kernel from Debian. Can install Debian iam use default Debian kernel - If using actualy archlinux-arm expects to funcionality kernel from archlinux - no any prothesis from other distribution.
Pleas add funcionality support to ethernet - other eventualy problems fix slowly for more time.

I wanted to see if eth worked with Debian kernel.
I ask you to try something, but you now think you know better, after all you have the device.
Plus I think you only see half my words.

ie
setenv arcNumber 3339
saveenv

I don't have the device

aaa...sorry...my english for speek and read is very, very... small ;)

For this situations i'm probably "death" - i'm worry for my langauage (english) problems and small operatives and tallents developers for more, more, many, many small/big technician and programers problem - this operation not ended succesfull.
I'm don't know how to install debian kernel to arch distrib-arm (NSA310).
:roll:

I'm use latest upgrade kernel (3.8.12-1-ARCH) and modinfo to build from r8168-dkms and loaded modules r8168 (viewtopic.php?p=31095#p31095) produced more info:

Do you want to scan for Super I/O sensors? (YES/no): n

Some systems (mainly servers) implement IPMI, a set of common interfaces
through which system health data may be retrieved, amongst other things.
We first try to get the information from SMBIOS. If we don't find it
there, we have to read from arbitrary I/O ports to probe for such
interfaces. This is normally safe. Do you want to scan for IPMI
interfaces? (YES/no): n

Some hardware monitoring chips are accessible through the ISA I/O ports.
We have to write to arbitrary I/O ports to probe them. This is usually
safe though. Yes, you do have ISA I/O ports even if you do not have any
ISA slots! Do you want to scan the ISA I/O ports? (YES/no): n

Lastly, we can probe the I2C/SMBus adapters for connected hardware
monitoring devices. This is the most risky part, and while it works
reasonably well on most systems, it has been reported to cause trouble
on some systems.
Do you want to probe the I2C/SMBus adapters now? (YES/no):
Sorry, no supported PCI bus adapters found.

Re: ZyXEL NSA320 booted from USB...once!

Postby pepedog » Fri May 10, 2013 9:02 pm

My last ditch attempt at nsa310
These are new http://myplugbox.com/lulo/
Get the firmware
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'mkdir -p /usr/libfirmware/rtl_nic
cd /usr/libfirmware/rtl_nic
wget http://trimslice.com/download/drivers/firmware/rtl_nic/rtl8168d-1.fw
wget http://trimslice.com/download/drivers/firmware/rtl_nic/rtl8168d-2.fw')
I think firmware may not be needed

Install properly for yours last build to 3.8.11-2* from http://myplugbox.com/lulo/ and...
no any change...not confirm how to modules funcionality,etc (load or not load fw) - this version modinfo generaly not working for included modules (r8169). If this fw exactly included to modules i8169 i'm not confirm how to working - i dont know how.
Nevermain:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
[root@alarm ~]# ls /sys/class/net
lo wlan0
[root@alarm ~]#
')
This new version driver r8169 still not produce any ethernet interface from your new 3.8.11-2*.
This situations identical can not use rtl_nic/*fw (rebuild again 3.8.11-2*).

Apropo's - my computer using its the same driver r8169 for my embeded to motherboard ethernet interface (ubuntu):
http://pastebin.com/1tNC2xnY

Building to test only using nsa310 from "make menuconfig" and produce .config:
http://pastebin.com/ME5PeiLa
and used this kernel loading modules [r8169(fw) and mv643xx-eth]:

I'm not sure for using patch to nsa310 its generally correctly. I'm think is bad and not applies full issue to nsa310.

Re: ZyXEL NSA320 booted from USB...once!

Postby lulo » Tue May 14, 2013 2:19 am

Compile last standard, default kernel (3.1.10-19-ARCH) and add module r8169 (loadable module).
Add only 1, small change from orginal config
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
CONFIG_R8169=m
')
full config: http://pastebin.com/RkaduMLj

litlle small question:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
# CONFIG_REALTEK_PHY is not set
')
or
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
CONFIG_REALTEK_PHY=y
')
???

Configurations this module to load at boot:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
[root@alarm ~]# ls /etc/modules-load.d
r8169.conf
[root@alarm ~]# cat /etc/modules-load.d/r8169.conf
#Load 'r8169.ko' at boot.
r8169
[root@alarm ~]# ls /sys/class/net
lo wlan0
[root@alarm ~]#
')

modinfo:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
[root@alarm linux]# modinfo r8169

Any change - any chance - this still not working - developers its still nothing changed for this machine (NSA310)...probably...hmmm. I'm hope its this situations changed very, very sun.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pepedog', 'C')an you grab uImage and modules from Debian install
Remember Debian is /lib/modules and arch is /usr/lib/modules
If that works
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'zcat /proc/config.gz')
pastebin it, if it doesn't work do in Debian

Also can you try (before above)
setenv arcNumber 3339

ok...using this method and not install /lib/modules (idon't know how to properly using)...using only uImage 3.5.1 (copy and replace oryginal uImage to /dev/sda1 an /dev/sda2://boot and setenv arcNumber 3393 to uboot can start machine using RS232 3.3 V TTL<=>USB). Can boot (properly and not properlu -Idon't now) using this command:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
ifconfig eth0 down
ifconfig eth0 hw ether 00:19:CB:00:51:81
ifconfig eth0 up
dhcpcd -k eth0
dhcpcd etho

dhcpcd[1044]: forked to background, child pid 1070
[root@alarm ~]# ls /sys/class/net
eth0 lo sit0
')

Internet from eth0 working
:D
zcat config.gz => http://pastebin.com/rDSBxzqw

Re: ZyXEL NSA320 booted from USB...once!

3389 well.. That's a mess. It shouldn't be that, since that isn't the registered number.

I'd like to point out my apologies, because investigating this, I realized we missed several parts of the board init. :oops: I am updating the package & patch now, but it will expect the registered arcNumber 4022.

He tried the Debian kernel, which I believe is based upon these patches
https://github.com/peeter123/NSA310-320-debian
So that is where my 3389 suggestion came from
Needs r8169 module in config too
