Install Arch Linux ARM on other devices.

Technexion TAO-3530

Hello

I'd like to get arch running on these devices.
They are powerful and (not so) cheap devices:

CPU TI OMAP 3530 @ 600Mhz
DSP Core TMS320C64x+™ @ 430Mhz
Memory 256 MB Low power mobile DDR
Storage 512 MB NAND Flash
Wireless LAN Marvell 8686 802.11b/g
Supported OS Linux 2.6.x, Windows CE, Android, Qt
Graphic Chipset POWERVR SGX 530

You can add a touchscreen, and, for instance with an Inferno pack, you get:

Connectors 2 mini-USB hosts
1 mini-USB device / OTG
RJ-45 LAN connector
SD card slot
Stereo audio in/out 3.5 mm
2W aplified speakers (L/R)
battery interface
TTL LCD & touchpanel for 4.3" LCD
DVI-D signal by HDMI connector
50 pin thruhole SPI, RS-232, UART, I2C, GPIO

The power can be provided by USB

What is interesting is that there is a lot of docucumentation and source code available, for kernel 2.6.37
Openbricks project says they support it, here: http://www.openbricks.org/supported-platforms/

I'd like to build a more recent kernel revision for this board, but I never did that before

Is this how I should proceed:
1) try to boot the kernel provided by technexion, with arch rootfs
2) make a diff between 2.6.37-tao and 2.6.37-vanilla
3) try to incorporate/port some changes into a newer kernel

Is that correct? Is there anyone interested to help?

Thanks
Eric

Basically that should work. You can start with the OMAP rootfs, and just add in the kernel you need for the device.

yes, but about the kernel, do you think a "generic" archlinux omap kernel will work?
will it even boot, and print info on the console, for instance?

Unless your device has a lot in common with one of the mainlined boards, I don't think our OMAP kernel would boot very far. Doesn't hurt to try though.
