$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('ykmag', 'Y')ou are actualy noy using stock uBoot, the SoC will first read from the SATA, ther it finds uBoot and starts of there, very nice indeed. Nothing touched on the original device, and easy to backup image on disk.

The uBoot and environment for it must be on some serial memory.

If we can't compile a new one with correct memory settings having all 256MB used, is it possible to make a copy of the uBoot of the device itself?

Shuttle has made a NAS with the same processor.

Is this of any use?

I would need more information. Knowing how the SoC works, and the possible implementations. I do have a 256MB uboot, but might need to make some changes for differences in GPIO lanes, et al.

Take a look at this:

Someone has got all 256M up and going.

I got it up with ArchLinux and 256M RAM.

I made first Meteohub installation on the disk (http://wiki.meteohub.de/Setup_DC01) and then replaced uboot, stage1 and kernel uimage as explained before in this thread. For uboot and stage1 see my previous messages. Kernel uimage is uImage.NAS7821.

Last thing is to replase Meteohub with ArchLinuxARM-2012.02-oxnas.tar.gz. The latest installation does no work. It will never enter to login state neither from serial nor network.

But it works now and all 256M ram is available.

By the way - GPIO lines do not work well with this ArchLinux installation. Meteohub kernel seems to be better with it (poweroff at least).

I've stuck to debian install. Netinstall seems not to work, because it don't boot with the install kernel image and initrd.

Have you others got it working?

It isn't working for you because the kernel you are using likely doesn't have the devtmpfs patch.

Well, I got Debian working on it by installing it with netinstall using Iomega Ix2-200 for the process.

Everything else but network worked right away after swapping hard drive back in the Silverstone.

I understand. I am telling you why you had problems with Arch Linux ARM.

Arc Linux Arm was easy to do with preinstalled package. Just needed to install a previous version and I suppose it can be updated without major problems.

Debian 6.0.5 works now too and I can explore them both.

By the way, the other white connector similar to the serial port might be S/PDIF.
