iConnect - Arch Linux

Install Arch Linux ARM on other devices.

iConnect - Arch Linux

Postby lennon » Sun Apr 15, 2012 11:29 am

Afternoon All,

I have a question and I have an idea it will be met with a response of "If you don't know know that then you should not be installing it" however I would like to ask anyway.

I have no concerns after reading the tutorial with installing Arch Linux on the iConnect albeit I haven't attempted it yet. However I would like to understand once I have installed Arch Linux what it will afford me in terms of additional items the iConnect is then capable of.

Many thanks.

Hi Conn,

Thanks for the reply.

I did see your post with regards to streaming but are you able to elaborate more on the other aspects?

Many thanks.

once you have installed archlinux you'll have a small computer with no screen running a linux system. It has network connectivity, all the ecosystem to back it up and even some GPIO capabilities (if you dare use a soldering iron on it).
If performance is not an issue, then the sky's the limit.
I've used mine as an asterisk server, some have used it as web server, as streaming server, I intended it as a base for a robot as some point.

Picture this as a netbook without a screen and forget about running windows on it.

Hi Philpot,

Thanks for the response.

That does sound interesting. So primarily I would like to do the following if possible:

Home server so all my music, films etc are available to the network.
Some form of itunes server.
Perhaps install some form of nzb client.
Remote Access to some of my files from the web.

Basically a NAS type device but with more bells and whistles. Can I assume that that there is no graphical interface from this installation?

Cheers.

There is no GUI. You can put yourself through setting that up, but TBH, it's not worth the trouble on this device (and many without video devices)

Otherwise, yes, all of that.

Hi Warheads,

Thanks for the response.

Is there a tutorial available for the iConnect detailing what is available?

Many thanks.

The tutorial is here, it's a community supported device (because none of the developers own one)

Anything that works on the v5 architecture will work on it.

Hi! Not sure if this is the most appropriate thread but it's half 3 in the morning and I've been pulling my hair out!! Successfully installed ALARM on my iConnect I got today, and worked my way through the Arch VDR wiki installing VDR. Everything has gone well apart from I cannot get it to load my USB DVB-Nova-T device! dmesg shows a USB device has been connected, and stops there... lsusb shows my Nova-T stick correctly but there is no modules loaded or a device node created!! I've ran a VM of a i686 Arch Linux install on my Windows Laptop and that identifies and loads all the modules perfectly.

Anyone any ideas please?!? All I want is a low power Network TV tuner and I'm stuck without the tv tuner part!! Lol

Excuse any bad English its gone half 3 in the morning and I'm fed up! Haha

find the module name in i686 and try modprobing it.
