ArchARM on Coby Kyros Mid7015?

Postby bsod666 » Sun May 13, 2012 6:29 am

Hello all! I was wondering, this is my first device that I have rooted and I am using this entirely as an experiment because

1. it is a VERY cheap device,
2. the screen has a entire row of dead pixels and
3. It is a cruelly underpowered tablet.

How would you suggest installing Arch on the tablet, and is there any software available that I can possibly give it tablet capabilities again? (If not that is fine. I can probably find a way to put a keyboard on it or something and continue testing from there).

It should be possible. First off, crack it open and find if there's a serial port on the board. Hook up a 3.3v serial cable and find out what uboot has built in. If it can load from mmc/sd, or if TFTP is an option...then awesome.

Get the source code for the kernel. Luckily it looks like they have 2.6.35 out. https://www.telechips.com/technical_sup ... wnload.asp
Build yourself a kernel.

This will take time and probably be a pain in the ***** and I give it a 20% chance of actually working.
