If I take an the alarm distro, what do you have by way of package management? Or is it a download source and compile job?

while arm repositories are different, and we do have some precompiled packages from AUR the concept is the same

On a vanilla alarm install, getting this in the system journal. I can't bring up eth0, due to dhcpd not starting. Is this a common problem?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
systemd[1]: Failed to start A basic dhcp ethernet connection.
')

Edit: Blurry vision, meant I missed the now obvious 'c' between the p and d: dhcpcd. However, problem still stands. Vanilla system, without any configuration changes at all failing to bring up eth0 on dhcp.

You might want to have a look around the forums. We've covered this.

There has been lots of discussion and coverage of ethernet not coming up as a result of people trying to use static IP addresses while still having their configuration set to use dhcp. That's not my issue. I am trying to get it to just dhcp an address from a direct connection to my host machine, which I would expect to work out of the box. But dhcpcd fails to start. I can't find anything relevant on this or any of the other device forums. If I connect another device to my host machine that uses DHCP, it comes up just fine and I can see the DHCP leases being issued in my host syslog.

This post proved hopeful, but it seems that it did get an address after all, just not the address the user was expecting.

That said, I am seeing an explicit failure in the logs, failing to start dhcpcd. As I said, the config is vanilla (untouched), so I would expect it to work. At some point I will switch it over to static, but for now I wan't to just get to grips with systemd.

This post also suggests that it should just work out of the box. You even said so yourself, quote - unquote.

So the resume on power off setting needs to be enabled... Really!? That's what causes the interface to fail? :o

ZyXEL's EE's dicking around are the cause, this is a viable work around.
