Good question about the cable. I'm kind of in the same mess as ChrisB --> http://archlinuxarm.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=3708&p=22862&hilit=nsa320#p22862

Tried it with a 3TB disk.. But failed. So I'll try a smaller one

I'm wondering would this work?

If you use a 3TB disk, you will need to use a HYBRID and not just GPT. But yes, that is one cheap way to make a serial cable.

I bought this and found OS X drivers somewhere. It came ready to hook to the header pins.

You only need to hook up the Tx, Rx and GND pins

Ok I feel a bit like a dumb dumb..

So yes I got the cable. In the right socket. I have power, usb and everything connected.. Now what..?

I get this:Image

Is there a wrong config in my minicom installation? Do I need another power configuration or a Bit sequence?

I get the feeling it might be something with the cable. At least that's what I hope.

WarheadSE you mentioned something about a prepared hdd that would also work.

Could I format a HDD with
ext2
swap

and extract the tgz onto the ext2 drive? Would that work?

1) You really don't need swap, if so, use a file, not a partition.
2) Yes, although I can't remember if it is /boot, /root or just /root off the top of my head.

Thanks, man!

Went ahead and partitioned the disk, just before I saw your post.

Ext 2 (16 mb)
Ext 3 bulk of disk
swap

I put the uimage in ext 2 /boot and just on the root /.

So back to the NSA320 insert disk and watch at least a change come along. The system boots to the disk. But the orange sys light is burning. And it stops doing anything else. So I wasn't sure if it started the arch system.
But sshing it does not really resolve anything. The orange light was kind of a bad omen anyways.

Do you know what that orange sys light might mean?

Probably just means the LED is on.

Ok.
Is there a ssh daemon running automatically? The getting started guide suggests that. But i cannot get a connection.
Or a telnet? Something? Or does this mean, it failed. And I have to try again..
