raid1 is not an option - because deleted files will be deleted immediately on both drives. i want to have a backup via hardlink-backups in place...

just read your "edit".

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
')raid is not required. You can also create the necessary paritions and system files on hdd2 and the system will still boot if you swap the drive positions.

does that mean that i need several (more than 1) partitions for running linux from this hdd? or would it be possible to have linux on the same partition as my data? i don't need the highest performance. ;-)

is there any estimation when the boardfile for nsa325 may be available (do i have to count months or weeks or maybe days?)? ;)

I don't have one to base off of, but I could be enticed to take a preemptive shot before I get one

According to the Smallnetbuilder review it has a 1.6 GHz Marvel Kirkwood processor and a USB 3 port.

Otherwise it is similar to the NSA320/310.
I bought a 325 when Newegg had them on sale for $120.
It would be much more useful for me with a USB wireless adapter.

Woof.
My RPi is now a permanent accessory to my NSA325, in order to help it boot whenever there's a power outage :roll:

Any way how I can contribute to a board file for NSA325?

I found that for the NSA310 recent kernel versions use a device tree file, should this be done for the NSA325 as well? I dont know, however, whether or not uboot on the NSA325 supports that or if it actually is required to support that, I am a total noob in this area.

However, I made a largescale diff between the Zyxel patched linux 2.6.31.8 and the official 2.6.31.8 kernel. Well, Zyxel applied a hell of a patch to get their NAS working... From this patch I tried to figure out what they are doing on init of the NSA325 board, but the amount of code i somewhat overwhelming...

If I can assist in the progress to get the NSA325 working smoothly with alarm please let me know.

cheers

Right now the biggest issue is the cold boot MCU watchdog. Once we're past that, everything else is cake. Hell, I can even make a kernel now, but even the stock firmware takes several tries to get booted because of this damned thing.
