ODROID-X2 Support?

Postby justsomeguy1983 » Sun Jan 06, 2013 5:08 am

Hi All,

I just received my Hardkernel Odroid-X2 in the mail.

I understand that the Odroid-X is supported (and yes I did try that image already) But, the cpu freq and ram size has changed with the X2 and It doesn't work yet.

I consider myself a beginner into the linux world and what experience I do have is with Debian. I've always wanted to learn ARCH and what better way than with trying to configure it to work with my new geek hardware!

Anyway what is status on a image for the X2, who would be the person/people to talk to and how can I help!?

Thanks!

the X2 is in the works. I just need to get everything back up and running in my office and get a chance to sit down and play.

Does its graphic driver currently support hardware acceleration for X ?

I'm considering myself a Linux n00b for quite some time because I haven't made the move from MS yet.
I want to have a Linux desktop device to play with and maybe using as my primary desktop until I decide to convert my laptop.
I don't need Youtube and video acceleration only graphic acceleration for X to be able to properly run Gnome (or another Desktop).
For example, for me the default Desktop for Raspbian on the Raspberry Pi is quite unusable, very slow and laggy.
Because of space and money consideration I prefer getting a cheap Arm device and considering the ODROID-U or the ODROID-U2 to be used with Motorola Lapdock and from the preferable VNC.

Would it fit my requirements ?

x86 nettop or all-in-one can be also quite cheap, yet with "normal" hardware. At the moment you can run Android or Linaro flavored Ubuntu on Odroid X2/U2. It has most of the apps, but not all you would get on x86.

I'm typing this from an X2 running Linaro. Being a long-time Arch user. I can't wait to get Arch on that board.. it has so much potential. I have little experience with kernel hacking, but I will gladly help with testing, etc.

Will this also work on the ODROID-U2? I can't see the difference between them apart from the number of USB ports and micro-SD vs full-size SD

Thanks to everyone working on alarm.

It's odd that those ARM platforms are so hard for custom OS deployment.

Not really. If you understand how ARM really works.
