Got ALARM runing on Amlogic-M6/MX, well...sort of.

Postby dhead666 » Thu May 08, 2014 1:26 pm

I added to the "ARMv7 Multi-platform" rootfs my kernel and got Arch to run on my Amlogic-M6/MX (meson6) device but not without errors.
EDIT: I forgot to enable FHANDLE

ATM I don't got terminal access via HDMI, no login via serial and no ssh.

The funny thing is that both my MX and M3 devices looking the same and for a half hour I tried to figure out why the MX kernel won't load on my M3 device.

Anyway here's how it look via serial.

Code: Select all

Finally got login via serial, network still down, something might be wrong with the network card driver, this message keeps on repeating

I created a package if anyone want to give this a try, it's a board specific and the board files includes the nand partitioning addresses.

Re: Got ALARM runing on Amlogic-M6/MX, well...sort of.

I still can't do anything with kernel 3.0.101, my device look to be freezing after getting to the "Graphical Interface" target.
As I disabled the ethernet module I don't get any errors with that regards or at all after the message about the "Graphical Interface" target.

As I see it there are two ways to approach this:

* Try to fix all the issues raised by the warnings of the build process.
I've got no idea if this will solve my problem and it will probably wil take quite some time as I'm uneducated in this field (and I don't know if I'll be able to succeed).

* Try using Amlogic 3.10 release that at first glance seems to build with less warnings, but I'll need to port the existing board files as the generic one supplied for the M6 doesn't boot my device.
I hope that I don't need to build also an updated uboot version, which I don't know if sources for existing uboot version of my device are available.

Overall, bummer.

I gave kernel 3.0.101 a last chance today.

I used linaro toolchain to build against an older version of gcc that I know is working perfectly in a Buildroot based Linux OS for the device and it didn't helped.
I reverted the kernel to a commit that is close to what I believe originaly released kernel sources of Amlogic (3.0.50) and again no result.
i also compared the config to sthe one of unxi7 and enabled more modules but nothing changed.
Moved rootfs from sd card to usb drive, still the same.

Main issue is that I can't get a login via serial (although from time to time it works for a second).

I'm giving up on 3.0.101. maybe it's too much broken or I'm doing something really wrong, it doesn't matter, better to start to work with the updated 3.10.

Got kernel 3.10 booting, booted by the legacy binary uboot installed in the device and used the appened fdt method for the kernel to get the fdb file.
Serial seems to be working perfect, no networking and there're still some major issues to be fixed.

Re: Got ALARM runing on Amlogic-M6/MX, well...sort of.

Postby dhead666 » Mon May 12, 2014 8:59 pm

Got network up using an usb adapter (usbnet0).
I'm seening allot of usb related errors when transfering files over network so loging over ssh isn't much a good idea yet.

Probably only next week I'll continue to give this attention again.

F***ing unbelievable !!!

Sorry for shouting but I needed it.
Someone leaked out Amlogic's kernel 3.10.33 and eth0 is working.

Now the fun begins ... need to package all of Amlogic misc libs and see if I can find a libMali.so that is not armel.
