Archlinux Arm on ARM Cortex A8 with GC800 tablet

Postby capsel » Tue May 29, 2012 4:43 pm

Recently I bought some cheap tablet: http://www.goclever.pl/goclever_tab_r74

Is it possible to port archlinux arm to this platform?
I already managed to download some parts of flash with rkflashtool (from xda developers forum).
What should I do next?

It's always plausible, just takes time. We need confirmation of the processor that is in this device, and you may want to start with a chroot prior to going full-on Arch. If the SoC is too far different, you will likely need to roll your own kernel and possibly initrd.

After a weekend I plan to add busybox with suid bit to flash memory. Which toolchain shouldI use?
Contents of my /proc/cpuinfo:
Processor : ARMv7 Processor rev 2 (v7l)
BogoMIPS : 815.55
Features : swp half thumb fastmult vfp edsp thumbee neon vfpv3
CPU implementer : 0x41
CPU architecture: 7
CPU variant : 0x3
CPU part : 0xc08
CPU revision : 2

Hardware : RK29board
Revision : 0000
Serial : 0000000000000000

initrd contains rk29xxnand_ko.ko

proessor is RockChip 2918

Is this sufficent? What else should I check? (and how)

So, kernel source is available for that kernel...but, the only downloads I can find for it are 2.6.32 not 3.0.8+ which looks like it was built from a git clone somewhere because of the +.

You could probably do a chroot. Native booting would be another beast all together.

What I would probably do would be to crack it open and see if you can find a serial port header somewhere on the board. Find out what uboot commands are supported. See if you can redirect the current kernel to boot to /dev/mmc0p0 or /dev/sda1

If you're incredibly lucky, you'll have mmcload, tftpboot, or usb support in uboot that you can slip your own kernel in.

In my experience, getting alarm on a tablet can be a huge PITA!

I have a very similar tablet, and I wonder if any progress has been made by either of you?
