SD Card nuked?

Postby Lugz » Sun Oct 07, 2012 10:59 pm

Not sure if I am just drunk right now or I am very special.

I somehow wrecked my install on my pi and it was not booting past the first screen with the pi logo(therefore not finish all the initialization). I decided to just wipe it and start fresh again. In the process of wiping (in windows with Win32DiskImager) it errored out about half way through. I then went to redo the image writing and it recognizes my SD card as a 1.0gb card instead of a 16gb card(its a 16gb card). I know this isnt win32diskimager support forums or SD card support forums for that matter, I was just wondering if anyone had a similar issue and could help me out.

Thanks all.

I hope you didn't setup swap on it.
If only you had another sd card and an sd card adapter, you could use the rpi to diagnose things further.

Were you overclocking?

There are cases where this has caused corruption:

It's unlikely it damaged the whole card but I have a card I still need to investigate where the root partition has become corrupted on my RPi.

I did not setup swap on it.

If I buy an adapter can I boot off another card and then plugin my corrupted one in the adapter and mount it?

Yes. Also it will probably be device /dev/sda, you can follow the Linux way of burning card, always sync before halt

Alright I will see if I can get my hands on a card reader. Either that or I will use a family windows laptop and boot a live cd and see if I cant get it to mount from there. Thanks for the help.
