XBMC error

Hi everyone

Finally I've received my brand new PI.
I have already download the last ArchARM image available for the Raspberry (archlinux-hf-2012-09-18) and write into an sd card with dd command as described in archarm site

As first thing i've done a system upgrade, and then install xbmc with pacman.
First i've installed xbmc-rbp-git 20121127-1 version.
With this was having many problem, so i thought "let's try the other version"
Now i've xbmc-rbp-git-next 20121130-1 package with all its dependencies.

I've create a newuser named xbmc and then i've tried to start xbmc. Here's what i get
* failed to open vchiq instance

I've try to search more info about the error but nothing seems help to me.

First of all, what is vchiq ?
How can i solve it? any suggestions?

-next is experimental, and requires -next kernel and firmware, not apparently working, I posted about it on their forum, no answer yet.

Xbmc should work just fine, did you change gpu memory to 128? It's needed

Oh, didn't know that was experimental.

So i'm back with normal firmware and xbmc versions. (uninstall firmware-next and xbmc-next and reinstall the "normal" one)

When I try to start xbmc, for a few sec i can see the xbmc logo, but after that i've got black screen with no possibility to go back to the command line.

After a reboot, I saw a crash log into my home dir. Here the log:

Where i've to change the gpu memory setting ?
I didnt find anything about that on the xbmc wiki and on other installation guide..

Edit /boot/config.txt
gpu_mem_256=128
Goes in there
Sync then reboot

My raspberry model is the one with 512MB, so i guess the parameter will be:
gpu_mem_512=128

I've edit config.txt and rebooted the system.

Nothing seems to be happend.

Same crash, same log as before..

By the way it's a really slow opening. It's something like one minute wait for the logo, and from the logo another minut to get xbmc working.

Is that normal?

It's not normal, run free to see what memory is.
Maybe a cron job is running? Run top to see if something is hogging cpu
