[SOLVED] Boot issue

Postby Mauron » Fri Jan 25, 2013 1:30 am

Hi, I tried to compile a kernel to add an hook for fbsplash but it created an unbottable one; I did no backup of the working one so I only have to rely on emergency kernel that I'm not able to use.
May I recompile a working kernel from there or restore the previous one?

Thank you.

Here's the package... http://os.archlinuxarm.org/armv6h/core/ ... pkg.tar.xz

Extract that to the root of the filesystem and copy /boot/uImage to the boot partition

Hi,
thank you for your answer!
Unfortunately my Arch version isn't the hard float one, so I suppose I won't be able to use that.
Am I supposed to use this one?

With a kernel it boesnt matter if it's hard or soft, but I would be inclined to use the soft one.
Don't forget, extract to rootfs and then copy/move /boot files to first partition of card, if you are doing on another system

Hi all!
I'm afraid I made a mistake: talking about "kernel" I was not referring to the actual one but to the boot image, here called kernel.img: I tried, at first, to use the original one took from here getting in fact a boot with no way to interact via keyboard.
So I have two "working" boot images: the emergency one and the original one from GitHub; how can I get a working boot image with working keyboard too?
Thank you and sorry for mistake.

Yes, kernel.img is the kernel, but you can't just grab that without the modules, and firmware to go with it
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'wget http://us.mirror.archlinuxarm.org/arm/alarm/raspberrypi-firmware-20130116-1-any.pkg.tar.xz
wget http://us.mirror.archlinuxarm.org/arm/core/linux-raspberrypi-3.6.11-4-arm.pkg.tar.xz
tar xf raspberrypi-firmware-20130116-1-any.pkg.tar.xz
tar xf linux-raspberrypi-3.6.11-4-arm.pkg.tar.xz')
These are soft float versions of all the files you will need. Don't forget that the boot folder files go on sd card first partition

Oh, I downloaded the wrong package, the linux-headers one.
Thank you, I'll try later.

The only kernel image made the trick, thank you!

I applaude you for trying to compile kernel anyway

Don't, I failed to compile.
Anyway, I think I'll open a new topic for that matter.
