How old is your rootfs? As old as my mum?
Do you not want to upgrade other packages? Even on a base install updates are quite large, a new rootfs will be out soon.

This should work, if you based new kernel on original config.
I would suggest extracting kernel package somewhere to graft back if it fails. Don't forget to copy kernel.img to card fat partition, and sync before reboot

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pepedog', 'T')his should work, if you based new kernel on original config.

Can you be more clear i can't understand you. I tried to overwrite kernel.img with the new kernel.img and made the modules_install successfully but it doesn't work.

Was `make modules_install` done locally on the device?
Does your kernel maybe just not boot?

Also, keep it to 1 thread.

When I say "if you based new kernel on original config", did you compile the kernel using an existing .config file, and modify with make menuconfig
Or just wade thru menuconfig only?
Other questions, where did you get kernel source, and what host did you build on?

Your next step would have been make uImage modules, followed by make modules_install
Then there is a step on the pi to turn a uImage into kernel.img, did you do that? Then copy to /boot
