Pi reboots anytime USB hub is unplugged

Postby gopher » Thu May 09, 2013 4:39 pm

Hi,

I'm having some problems with my Pi. I have a Belkin 8-port powered USB hub, and if I try to plug it into the Pi after booting up the pi, the Pi reboots. Similarly, if I have it booted up with the USB hub and unplug the hub from the Pi, the Pi reboots as well. Any ideas as to what if going on? Or is this just something that ArchLinux does on purpose?

I know this is an old post but nobody has answered you yet. I think it is a hardware issue and that it would happen no matter what system you were running on your Pi. You did not post the model number for the hub, you might check the verified peripherals page at elinux to see what others have posted about it.

Also, I have experienced similar issues with other hubs, I think it has something to do with power. I have read that the Pi will reboot if it has a sudden surge or drop in power. For me, I prevent it by making sure all devices in the hub are plugged in and that the hub has been turned on or powered for a while and then plug the hub back into my pi very early in the boot process. That seems to prevent the rebooting. I also make sure I unplug the hub before I turn off it's power, so it does not drain juice from the Pi.

Mine is just powered by the hub itself :P I only have a mouse connected to it so 2 amps that the power adapter for the hub provides is enough

I have a Bellini 8 port hub. As long as I power the pi via it it's ok.
Otherwise I get power feedback.
Even so with that arrangement, plugging something into hub can cause a crash
