[SOLVED] Unable to finish boot sequence

Postby platispete » Tue Aug 06, 2013 5:19 pm

I just installed Arch Linux Arm (archlinux-hf-2013-07-22) for the first time on my Raspberry but i cant use it.
When i power on the device, it starts booting but then stops at:

smsc95xx 1-1.1:1:0: eth0: register 'smsc95xx' at usb-bcm2708-usb-1.1, smsc95xx USB 2.0 Ethernet, b8:27:eb:48:3a:00

it just stops there, no error

Now my old occidentalis (Raspbian) image works just fine so the problem is not hardware related.

Any idea what is going on?

Thank you in advance.

I assume
"smsc95xx 1-1.1:1.0 eth0: register 'smsc95xx' at usb-bcm2708_usb-1.1 ...."
has been finished correctly.

After that it will mount the filesystems ( (usb-storage), tmpfs, rootfs), maybe it hangs there but why?
I don't know, just an idea to start checking. ;)

I tried every OS there is today.

Pidora and a fresh installation of Adafruit's Occidentalis that is based on Raspbian worked brillianly, but Raspbian itself didnt, it got stuck at exactly the same spot as Arch.

I tried NOOBS as well and i only get a coloured screen.

I dont get it....

I would try a different sd card
Pogoplug V4 | GoFlex Home | Raspberry Pi 4 4GB | CuBox-i4 Pro | ClearFog | BeagleBone Black | Odroid U2 | Odroid C1 | Odroid XU4
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[armv5] Updated U-Boot | [armv5] NAND Rescue System

Sometimes troubleshooting can be funny...
After 3 days of trying everything and searching everywhere, i noticed that somewhere among my boot messages there was this:

"Greetings from standalone Raspberry Pi"

I googled it just for fun and immediately found a post explaining that my arch is booting into minimal kernel mode and that the only think i had to do was add "avoid_safe_mode=1" to the "config.txt" file in my boot partition.

The reason for that is probably the ADC connected to my GPIO pins, apparently it is pulling the safe mode pin low during boot.

Though it should be noted that Occidentalis and Pidora dont have this option in their configs either but boot perfectly.
