Accessing Raspberry via serial

Postby tomcom » Wed Sep 04, 2013 2:22 pm

Hi,

I only need a shell to work with my raspberry.
So it would be nice if I could access via Minicom or Cutecom using a USB-TTL-Uart converter like this:

Using other distributions accessing the shell via Cutecom works fine (/dev/ttyUSB0;baut=115200;databits=8;stopbit=1).
But on using Archlinux Arm I see nothing than confuising letters.

Perhaps it is because of the colored shell. How could I set up a simple text shell?

I find that with some command line applications, changing the TERM environment variable improves their performance. check your TERM entry with:

echo $TERM

Experiment with different terminal types. Mine is currently set to vt100 but, for example, lynx runs better for me when I use TERM=xterm

Play around with various settings.
