$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pepedog', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')hen reinserted the Ultra sd back into the rpi booted and ran pacman -Syu, the only thing that installed was the firmware

This worries me, when you say firmware, do you mean packages linux-raspberrypi AND raspberrypi-firmware?
They are a pair, definitly the latest have to be done together

Pepe, linux-raspberrypi and header-api installed when I used the ignore switch excluding raspberrypi-firmware. The first time, on the original crash all three were installed. Then I copied the boot files from my backup onto the sandisk Ultra and it booted fine except it did not have any mods to load.

Then I ran pacman -Syu --ignore raspberrypi-firmware which updated the kernel and apis, then reboot. At that point everything worked fine. It loaded all the required mods and wireless started working again. I then did pacman -Syu again to verify that it was in fact the raspberrypi-firmware that caused the crash.

And As I mentioned above it has been running with the latest kernel minus the firmware I mentioned in one of the above posts. So it is running with the old raspberrypi-firmware and the new linux-raspberrypi and header api.

Hope that clears it up for you.

I have the same problem. Clean SD card installation, then 'pacman -Syu' and after restart RasPi don't boot again. I try enlarge SD card partition to use all it's capacity, and after that I try 'pacman -Syu', but result is the same. Can anyone help with this issue?

Edit:
After repeating all this install and update process with --ignore raspberry-firmware, all works now. It was too raspberrypi-firmware-20121120-1. I want try Arch, before I used Raspbian, but it is very bugy. It's Arch on the same board with him?

I can confirm that there is nothing wrong with firmware or kernel. Latest versions work just fine, but post install message for firmware is still there.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Magikarp', 'I') can confirm that there is nothing wrong with firmware or kernel. Latest versions work just fine, but post install message for firmware is still there.

How can you say that? For me and for jakebpg means this firmware non functional Raspberry Pi. Without it all works, but when I update it, Raspberry don't boot => firmware is the problem.

All I can do is rebuild the 2 packages, I don't think anything magical has happened upstream, but you never know.
Also work is progressing by the foundation on 3.6 kernel and matching firmware, will knock them up and post so there is an alternative to use

I have just updated to the latest packages, and Pi is working just fine. Something is wrong on your end guys.

@pepedog, can you please post PKGBUILDs for 3.6 kernel and next firmware branch?

Here are my files so you can compare the differences.

config.txt
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
gpu_mem=128
disable_overscan=1
hdmi_force_hotplug=1
hdmi_ignore_cec_init=1
')
cmdline.txt
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
sdhci-bcm2708.enable_llm=1 sdhci-bcm2708.sync_after_dma=0 smsc95xx.turbo_mode=N dwc_otg.lpm_enable=0 console=ttyAMA0,115200 kgdboc=ttyAMA0,115200 console=tty1 consoleblank=0 loglevel=2 root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 rootfstype=ext4 rootwait
')
I don't know if most of the options are even necessary, but the do work.

I'm using Transcend 8GB SDHC Class10 and powered hub from modmypi.com for power and ethernet for network.

For most problems with Pi, cause is either SD or power. Have you tried any other distro?

I have the same settings and it don't work. I try Raspbian and it run without problems. I like Arch filosofy, but maybe I try raspbian installer. It's problem, if some pacman update can broke whole system, I need stability, but with newest firmware ...
