How to enable the proprietary codecs?

Postby MickeyKnox » Fri May 27, 2016 11:59 am

I have just bought the codecs for my raspberry pi. I put them in config.txt, as suggested in the email.
However, I couldn't find any difference. Videos that did not play before aren't playing now neither.
The email also mentioned some vcgencmd command, which is not present in my installation.
What package do I need to install to get it?

vcgencmd is in raspberrypi-firmware-tools. If you have it already installed, you can check the locations of it's files with:

pacman -Ql raspberrypi-firmware-tools

Thanks, got it. The codecs are enabled. I'm using omxplayer to play video files.
Does omxplayer use the new codecs automatically? If so, why are there still files I can't play?
