[SOLVED] Kernel "stuck" at version 4.4.21-1 ? (TL;DR nope)

Postby WebReflection » Sat Sep 17, 2016 12:16 pm

Apparently the latest 4.7.4 seems to bring in great improvements for the RPi:

However, my "just updated" RPi2 tells me 4.4.21-1 which is quite "an oldie" considering my desktop says 4.7.4-1-ARCH.

Is there any plan to bring in latest kernel through pacman -Syu or is there any known/documented procedure to have Arch on it with latest kernel?

Thanks in advance for any sort of help/hint/link/direction.

Best Regards

How is 4.4.21 old if it was just released?
Rpi foundation's official series is 4.4.x When they consider later branches stable enough we will switch as well.

For reference check kernel.org and rpi foundations github.

I did, it says "Latest stable 4.7.4" which is what I have on my laptop.

I wasn't aware RPi was following the LTS release so I'll change my question:

is there a way to have on RPi the latest stable kernel instead of latest longterm via Arch/pacman/yaourt ?

Thanks

[edit] I see they have also 4.8 or 4.7 https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/tree/rpi-4.7.y but I'm not sure there's a simplified way to bring those in via yaourt. Will check

You can compile it yourself. Take this https://github.com/archlinuxarm/PKGBUIL ... aspberrypi
modify PKGBUILD to reflect the latest commit for 4.7.4 branch, change pkgrel and either fix BFQ stuff to reflect the changes for v8r3 or comment it all out if you don't need bfq. You will then have to modify kernel config (it will run make oldconfig for you automatically).
