RPi Does Not Boot Past Colour Square

Postby libervurto » Fri Jan 06, 2017 1:05 pm

Hi, I am a complete newbie when it comes to Arch (except for trying Manjaro on my desktop).

I followed all the installation instructions at https://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv6/raspberry-pi but all that happens when I power up my pi is I get the large colourful square. The LED doesn't blink it just stays lit.

I have tried using the SD with a Pi 2B and Pi 3B. No difference.

Here is the filesystem for the first partition:

I didn't post the ls output for the second partition as it's very long.
I have not edited anything in config.txt or cmdline.txt

Thanks for any help.

Thanks. Unfortunately, adding, "boot_delay=1", as suggested in the link, didn't work. I will try another kernel.img but I'm not really sure where to get it from.

Is the structure of my boot partition correct? I find it odd that I don't have a folder called "boot".

Read more of that. It's also possible you're stuck in a boot-loop on the kernel early init because of a brown-out from your power supply.

Your /boot should not have a /boot/boot.

Very unlikely to be a brownout as the same thing happens on both my pi's and I've tried a couple of different power supplies, which I've used to power the pi before. I have also used this SD card with the pi before.

Is there anything I can print out that would help find the problem?

Cheers

Okay, then are you using the right userland, and thus kernel? Our kernels are not portable across major versions of Pi. You need one for Pi 1, another for 2, and a third for 3.

Thanks for replying again.

I have used the wget command in the installation instructions:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'wget http://os.archlinuxarm.org/os/ArchLinuxARM-rpi-latest.tar.gz')
So whatever was in there on Friday 6 January is what I have.

Where would I find other kernels to try? Can I just swap out the kernel.img file for another?

Hi, if your problem still persists, i think you indeed have the wrong userland and kernel for your pi.

Here are the installation instructions for the raspberry Pi 2:
https://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv ... berry-pi-2

And here for the raspberry Pi 3:
https://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv ... berry-pi-3

The files you downloaded were for the raspberry Pi 1, you can see that by looking at the url.
