Raspberry Pi 3B+: SFTP transfers from external HDD time out

I've set up my raspberry pi (3B+) with a 2.5A power supply and an externally powered 2Tb HDD connected via USB.

Everything seems to run fine except for the sftp file transfers in which the device goes nuts.

I use filezilla to retrieve some torrented files from the raspberry and the transfer just plain stops for some seconds, then filezilla reconnects and continues the download.

At first I plugged a 2.5'' HDD non-externally powered disk and though that was an issue with power consumption, having the disk drain most of it and making the network unstable, but now, with an externally powered HDD, I have no clue of what could be happening...

We too can't guess it, in particular if there's no information about your system.
Would you provide some details of you journal or the SFTP server log ?
BTW, have tried to use samba for file transfer ?

armv7 or arm64 ?
anything in dmesg ?
What happens if you copy locally the content to /dev/null on the pi3+ ?

It's arm64
I don't see anything relevant on dmesg
Locally copying the files to another location or to the internal storage (sdcard) seems to work fine.

Actually, copying a file to the internal sdcard and then pulling it via sftp gets stuck as well so I think it's just an sftp issue alone. That or network configf related....

Sounds like my problem with arm64:

Maybe you can do some tests to confirm ? I had given up and reverted to armv7
