[SOLVED] Linux image for BCM2708

Postby lviggiani » Thu Sep 12, 2019 10:13 am

Hello, I'm new to this forum. I'm an Arch linux (pc) user and I would also like to try arch on my very old RaspberryPI.
I've found this image https://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv6/raspberry-pi but the page says that it is for BCM2835 whereas my RPI is BCM2708

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
# cat /proc/cpuinfo
processor : 0
model name : ARMv6-compatible processor rev 7 (v6l)
Features : swp half thumb fastmult vfp edsp java tls
CPU implementer : 0x41
CPU architecture: 7
CPU variant : 0x0
CPU part : 0xb76
CPU revision : 7

Hardware : BCM2708
Revision : 0003
Serial : 00000000f0817f34
')

Is the image compatible with my HW?
Thanks!

It's the same.
afaik the different names are related to the difference between chip, silicon and package.

The package (including dram) is named BCM2835 and the cpu itself is BCM2708.
Not sure if my definition is absolutely correct but the discussion if rpi has a bcm2708 or bcm2835 is very old.
