Need some help with pygame

Hi,
I have installed Python 2 and Pygame. It works (ie I can "import pygame"). But I cannot load non-BMP images. I have sdl_image installed. I tried to find an sdl image devel package, but couldn't find one with pacman.
I am enjoying using Arch - I hope you don't mind me asking this question.

Have you been down the pip route?
pacman -S python2-distribute
Pip install packagename
