New raspi loging in

Postby mikhailvs » Sat Jun 02, 2012 5:48 am

Hey, I just got my Raspberry PI and of course loaded arch on it. Now, it boots up and has the typical login screen, so i try to login as root. After this, there is no prompt for a password! I think i may just be doing something stupid... but how do I login to the RasPI?

thanks

root with password root is the only user login
I suggest you reinstall.
If you have a keyboard and monitor plugged in, Alt-Ctrl-Del works, BTW

Hmm... maybe it is just taking a while... what good will re-installing do? it took like ~20 minutes to boot.

20 minutes? Mine boots in some 30 seconds or so. Doesn't linux do somekind of hostname lookup when you type in your username? I've had some computers where there's a small delay between displaying the password prompt after typing your username.. probably due to hostname resolving being slow. Now if your raspi is totally jammed (as it seems?) the whole hostname lookup might hang.

Run "passwd root" as root. You'll be prompted to enter the new root password, then to confirm it.

If you'd like to create a non-root user, run adduser and follow the prompts.
