Is systemd init supported

Postby bmentink » Wed Sep 19, 2012 7:20 am

Hi All,

With Arch mainline going to systemd instead of sysinit, is this supported for ARM?
I have noticed quite an improvement in boot time with systemd on my laptops and would like to use it on the
raspberry PI ...

Cheers,
B

Yes, not only supported but new image boots this way. Boot time is fast.

Thanks pepedog .. what do you mean by new image?
If I remember when I installed a month ago sysinit was used ... is the default now systemd?

Cool thanks, I will re-installl.

Quick question, what is the best way with systemd to launch openbox, can I do it in the frame buffer or do I need to install X?
I am thinking that XBMC does not need X, can openbox do the same?

Well in the meantime I have installed xorg-server and xorg-init and have openbox starting by
"xinit openbox-session"

Now, how do I start openbox automatically on boot with systemd? I used to be able to do it with the /etc/inittab file.

Thanks,

Seems like the Arch wiki would cover that.

First place I looked ... could not find anything ...

EDIT: Might have a go at making a .service file ....

Ok, I created a really simple one that does "xinit openbox-session" and is launched by the graphical.target and it works great.
Takes 10 seconds from turning on the power till openbox ... awesome
