Slow video playback with VLC

Postby rusher81572 » Wed Oct 03, 2012 9:17 pm

Hello,

I just installed Arch on my Raspberry PI.

I Created 512mb swap file and overclocked the CPU to "Turbo Mode" per the instructions in the forum.

After overclocking to Turbomode, I can now finally see video but it is very choppy when playing off my LAN. RaspBMC plays perfectly fine.

Here is some data at time of play

473 steph 20 0 177m 57m 15m S 65.4 31.4 2:07.66 vlc

[root@alarmpi ~]# free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 183 171 12 0 10 67
-/+ buffers/cache: 92 90
Swap: 511 3 508

Well the CPU of RPi is not really cabale of decoding video. You need to use omxplayer
or XBMC that offload the video decoding to the hardware video decoders.
