[Solved]Alsamixer will not run

Postby Wesman26 » Thu Nov 29, 2012 12:46 pm

Hey, so I'm setting up my RPi finally and I can't seem to get ALSA working. I installed alsa-utils and I've tried both as root and as a user in the audio group, but I keep getting the following:

Code: Select all
# alsamixer
cannot open mixer: No such file or directory

I've looked around a bit, on here and other forums, but I can't seem to find a solution.

Any help is appreciated,

Try this
Code: Select all
modprobe snd-bcm2835

Now try alsamixer

To make it start on boot
Code: Select all
echo "snd-bcm2835" > /etc/modules-load.d/bcm2835.conf

Thank you so much! That absolutely worked. Sorry if this is a pretty frequent question, I couldn't find a solution around the internet after about an hour of searching, and I figured I'd just ask. I'm glad I did!

Thank you again!

This is becoming my favourite page lately

Adding your user to groups (optical, audio, scanner, etc.) is not necessary for most use cases with systemd. The groups can even cause some functionality to break. For example, the audio group will break fast user switching and allows applications to block software mixing.
