The current version of xmbc on the repos has a bug and doesn't play mkv subs; this has been fixed in the upstream git repo, so a new build in the repos would be nice to fix this
I know how to recompile it, I just think it's a bit nonsense to make everyone recompile this with such a big bug that has already been solved. It would make much more sense just to update the version in the repos.
It may fix this bug but it may introduce others. That's why it's "unstable". Though, I am pretty sure if you are willing to maintain this package developers will let you add to (precompiled) aur repository. But to maintain it, you still have to compile it to see if doesn't have any errors.

Do you have any news on that? I managed to compile the git version to avoid this bug but the bug is still there... Are you sure that git version have been patched?
EDIT 04/08/2013 : I've made a new build of the last git version, it now works well.
