No sound over HDMI [SOLVED]

Found several guide instructing users to:
*Uncomment `hdmi_drive=2` in /boot/config.txt which I have done.
*Run `amixer -c 0 cset numid=3 2` to enable HDMI sound which I have done.

I do not have pulseaudio installed. I have the vol cranked up in alsamixer but still am unable to hear anything over HDMI. Advice is appreciated.

EDIT: Seems as though I needed several alsa-related packages. After installing them and a reboot, everything worked as expected.
