Install issue on Raspberry Pi

Postby dreed47 » Sun Jan 25, 2015 1:32 am

The install instructions on this site for Raspberry Pi assume I'm preparing the SD card from a Linux system. I have a Mac. Every instructions that I can find to do this from a Mac assumes i can download an .img image file but no such image file is available in the download section. Are there Mac instructions available or is the a downloadable image (.img) file for me to use?

Best as i can tell it's not possible to prep the ArchLinux Rapberry Pi SD card from Mac or Windows without doing it from a virtual machine. It would be good if that we mentioned somewhere. Also, it's sort of a big limitation in my opinion.

Once again: no img available anymore. You MUST have access to a Linux system (virtualbox, another rpi, PC, etc.) unless you use N.O.O.B.S.

A short message on the install page describing this might help keep people from having to go to the forums and search for it. Thx for the reply and sorry for the new post but a quick search of the forums didn't turn anything.

not an issue but a question about tutorial
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '2').d) (in fdisk) Type t, then c to set the first partition to type W95 FAT32 (LBA).

why do we need to do this if we will later use mkfs.vfat command?
because it is boot partition?

p.s. is there any section for noob questions?

It has to be marked as a such for the boot0 code to pick that partition up as the one to read the bootloader/config etc from at boot.

You can't format it as that unless it is set to that.
Try it, nothing lost.

I have a mac also. If you utilize the NOOB download that raspberry.org provides there is and archlinux option in which they will do this for you. I am in the same boat as you so let me know what step you are in and I will try to help.
