Arch for Orange PI R1?

Postby dimytch » Sun Jul 31, 2022 3:07 pm

Hello, dear all.

Bought R1 and Pi4 LTS and much likely want to install an arch to both of them.
Instructions are a bit rusty, links do not opens.
Archlinux (x64) wiki was removed all pages, mentioning ARM distros.
Could anyone direct me to fresh instructions about that subject? At least how to assemble arch for those platforms from sources, I can't even find that.

As long as it's supported by mainline Linux (which I suspect it is, but you'd have to check), then you should be able to make it work. I would probably follow the instructions based on one of the other armv7 Allwinner boards like the OLinuXino-Lime https://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv7/allwinner/a10-olinuxino-lime. That'll have you download the generic armv7h image root tarball, then you'll just have to supply your own bootloader, which it looks like mainline u-boot supports this since there's https://github.com/u-boot/u-boot/blob/master/configs/orangepi_r1_defconfig. I would install the u-boot package for whatever board your basing off of, then replace the u-boot binary from the package with the one you compile for your board and you should be OK to boot. Definitely YMMV, though.
