I've made further progress, following along the same lines as vonfritz:
- the official Arch kernel does not work
- I compiled my own kernel from the source at https://github.com/amery/linux-allwinner
(using the default sun4i_defconfig configuration); that boots OK.
I think the Arch kernel is from the same source, but a slightly earlier version

I've got X working fine. You need to load the "lcd" and "hdmi" modules, then you can start X from an ssh console. Unfortunately there's no framebuffer console, so nothing appears on the HDMI until you start X; this seems to be a known bug that people are working on.

Hi, I'm just a newbie on Arm(got mk802 II for 4 days). I've used arch linux for 6 years.
Could you provided a full img file for dd?

I've tried to use lubuntu's image, and replace it by ArchARM-lastest.
And I put back to lubuntu/lib/modules/3.0.* to /usr/lib/modules/3.0.*
(I still use the lubuntu's image).
I just got a black HDMI display.

I don't know is there any error on /var/log/boot

Main issue: currently *not* auto setting the display and firing up X.

you'd need to pre-install all the necessary xorg, configs, et al.

It's not about the size. It's not that big.

I can't Pre-Config for your wireless either, unless you regularly use unsecured wireless

Ya, but, I think i could use "sd card" reader to config my password into the correct location.

Hellos,

Is there someone or a method to get LXDE, XFCE or ssome other lightweight desktop running on this? I am n00bie on linux and arch-arm so my abilities are not as advanced as some of you. Seems we are on the verge of getting this working or possibly with an .img file. Is there any way I can help??

Like, for example, can I chroot into the ALARM and pacman -S lxde or some way like that? Just to get LXDE or XFCE running. At this point I don't care which, or some other, that it is....
