A10 devices and XBMC

Postby doragasu1 » Tue Mar 26, 2013 4:25 pm

Did Anyone try running XBMC on an A10 device? I was considering buying something similar to the Hackberry to set up a media center, but I don't know if it will run properly. I started thinking on a Raspberry Pi first, but I have read it has problems with some video codecs (H.264 using some uncommon settings) and some audio codecs (like DTS, that must be decoded using CPU). I have also read interface is a bit laggy. A10 SoC is more powerful than the one inside the RasPi, so maybe it will run better.

Has anyone tried XBMC on an A10 device? Is 1080p video/audio decoding working? Any experiences to share?

Yeah, I have one MK 802 clone, it does not mean a improvement compared with the native android player. The video runs kind of choppy, it seems that it does not uses hw decoding

They are working on the VPU access code, until that is complete, it will remain slightly annoying.

Some weeks ago I read a lot in XBMC forums, and it looks like the problem is there are some bugs in Cedar library, used for HW accelerated decoding in Allwinner SoCs. As it looks like Allwinner is not willing to fix these bugs and/or release the sources, it is not likely we will get XBMC support for these chips.

Too bad, as they are really cheap and decent SoCs, much more powerful than the RPi.
