Cubieboard2 - XORG Config - TV Out

Postby Samyael » Tue Mar 25, 2014 5:41 am

I recently acquired a Cubieboard2 as a learning device and for a DIY tablet project I got inspired to do. I am trying to get Composite video to work correctly since I only have a TV with RCA A/V and irrationally not in the mood to deal with wiring VGA.

At the moment I have composite video working - I get the boot messages and get to the login screen but I have a couple problems I need help with.

A) The text is cut off slightly to the left - Ex: [OK] in the boot lines only reads K]

B) It will not display a display manager - Have tried GDM and LightDM.

Is there a specific X server configuration to fix these issues? Maybe some modification to uEnv.txt?

Any help would be appreciated.

Have you installed any video drivers yet?

Basic install from the Installation page under the Cubieboard2 package page.

It is up to date as of 10:00pm UTC-7 3/24/2014

I have installed:
alarm/xf86-video-fbturbo-git
aur/cubieboard-modules-load

uEnv.txt reads
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'console=ttyS0,115200 console=tty0')

/usr/lib/modules-load.d/cubieboard.conf reads

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
#For SATA Support
sw_ahci_platform

#Display and GPU
lcd
#hdmi
ump
disp
mali
mali_drm
#8192cu
fbcon
')

*Note* systemd-modules-load fails due to mali-drm not being found.

/boot/script.bin is unchanged except for disp_init
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
[disp_init]
disp_init_enable = 1
disp_mode = 0
screen0_output_type = 2
screen0_output_mode = 14
screen1_output_type = 2
screen1_output_mode = 14
fb0_framebuffer_num = 2
fb0_format = 10
fb0_pixel_sequence = 0
fb0_scaler_mode_enable = 1
fb1_framebuffer_num = 2
fb1_format = 10
fb1_pixel_sequence = 0
fb1_scaler_mode_enable = 1
')

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'a')ur/cubieboard-modules-load

Not official, I don't care about this package.

That FEX snippet looks like it matches the example on http://linux-sunxi.org/Fex_Guide#disp_i ... figuration , which is certainly the place to have found the references.

I can't help you much at this point, myself.

Yeah, to set it up I've been going back and forth between linux-sunxi wiki/forums and here but have not found much on dealing with Composite Video outside of changes to disp_init and how to wire it.

I got it working so it now shows GDM. I followed the directions on this thread:
http://archlinuxarm.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=5979

The only problem I still am having is the TV is overscanning the output. But that is a TV issue not a Cubieboard/driver issue.

Something I've noticed while trying to work with the display output is that the aspect ratio is coming out 3:2 when it should be 4:3 for NTSC.

Taking that into consideration, that is probably what is causing my overscan issue.

Does anybody have any suggestions on how one might go about fixing that?
