Recently, after getting fed up with waiting for Dropbox to come out with an ARM client, I went in search for an offsite backup service that I could access from any OS from any computer.

For those of you not in the know, rsync is a utility software and network protocol for Unix-like systems (with ports to Windows) that synchronizes files and directories from one location to another while minimizing data transfer by using delta encoding when appropriate. (snagged from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rsync)

Rsync is ideal for low powered ARM devices that you'd like to keep files synchronized with offsite storage.

I reached out to rsync.net and informed them of what I wanted to do and they responded with an actually decent deal for our users. They're willing to offer $.10/GB of storage per month. Of course, there's a minimum of 50GB, but that's only $5/mo. If you just order without being an Arch Linux ARM user, 50GB is $16/mo ($.32/GB). There's no transfer limits so you can upload and download as much as your heart desires.

Another nice thing about it is you can pay with PayPal or credit card!

So far, the only downside I've come across, and it's a small one, is my lack of instant gratification. When you set up an account, you don't get an immediate place to start uploading. Depending on when you sign up, it might take a bit for them to allocate your space and set up your account. But in my case, it only took about an hour.

So, give them a try! Their support is great and fast to respond.

To get this rate, just email info@rsync.net and tell them you're an Arch Linux ARM user!
When I asked how our users should get set up with rsync.net, they responded:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')hey should just email info@rsync.net and mention they are working with, or working on, your project (or are simply users of it) and they can get the 10 cent per GB, per month rate.

Arch Linux ARM users may sign up for our full featured offsite filesystem at a rate of 10 cents per GB, per month.

An annual payment is required, and the minimum account size is 50 GB.

This discount will be locked in for you forever, and any future upgrades you make to the account will receive this discount.
