Kernel package for the MarS board

Postby zombiepantslol » Sat Aug 31, 2013 4:05 pm

Hello everyone,
I've been playing around with Arch Linux ARM for a while and made a kernel package for the MarS board. It is based on a Freescale i.MX6 dual-core ARM processor, but unfortunately only an outdated kernel (3.0.15) has been offically published. That was the reason I decided to port it to the latest 3.0 kernel series, which is currently 3.0.101. Since it requires many extra hardware-specific files to operate on the MarS board, an extra patch is included along with my package. I tried to remove as many unneeded patches as possible, but if you find anything else that can be safely removed, let me know and I'll take care of it.

You can get the kernel package here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/4sabfvnt9b6s01n/linux-imx6-mars.tar.gz

At this point I want to say thanks to the whole ALARM crew for their work, great job keeping this project alive! :)

I hope this package is of use for someone. If you decide to use it, I'd appreciate to get some feedback as well.

In case you are wondering how to use it, just compile the package and integrate it into the precompiled i.MX6 ROM. That way, it is possible to boot up the MarS board with Arch Linux ARM.

Best regards,
Christian

I've ported the kernel to 3.0.35 since this is the stable version Freescale Community BSP uses. The kernel code is hosted on github: https://github.com/silmerusse/linux-imx

I installed Archlinux and played for a while. But I found Arch's packages were too new to work with Freescale BSP binaries at that time. I decided to build my own distro using yocto. My layer is currently hosted here: https://github.com/silmerusse/meta-robomind
