Atmel ATSAMV71N21

This is for any ARMv7 device that we do not officially support.

Atmel ATSAMV71N21

Hello,
Our company would like to design new device. Because of complexity of device we will need to run linux on the device. For our application we choosed mcu ATSAMV71N21 of course with external ram.
A searched the forum, but it looks the Arch Linux Arm does not support Atmel so much.
For our applciation we will need to run file system, some VPN (like OpenVPN), USB host and some encryption algorithms (choosen mcu has hw support for cryptography). We do not need graphich user interface or display.
Do you think is possible to run this version of linux on choosen mcu? How difficult is porting to this HW platform? Could you recomend me suitable RAM size, please?
Thank you

That device is a Cortex-M7, using the ARMv7-M ISA. We only support the ARMv7-A ISA, present in Cortex-A series ARMv7 processors.

Given the specifications of that processor, you would likely be better off investigating any Linux BSP stacks available from other vendors, or rolling your own minimal Linux system from scratch with only the capabilities you need. A standard server/desktop Linux solution, such as what we provide, would present considerable disk, RAM, and CPU overhead to an already constrained system like that Atmel chip.
Arch Linux ARM exists and continues to grow through community support, please donate today!

Thank you for your reply.
We have one more mpu what we would like to use. It is ATSAMA5D4. It is on cortex-A5. We will have there 256MB external RAM and 1GB integrated flash + microSD.
Could you think this chip will be ok for that?
Thank you

It will be probably best solution for this HW platform.
Thank you for your help.

ALARM could be used on that device. You'd have to BYOK/B, but the userland should be fine.
