Provided that what you clipped out included the version 2014.01-1 for uboot-wandboard-dual, then you have the required version flashed to the card.

You will need to connect serial, interrupt the U-Boot autoboot, and inspect the environment. You can reset to the default shipping environment by running 'env default -f -a'.

Thank you. Of course, I don't own any serial cables. :D

See my edit, is there any way of hacking around this? Like doing the kernel update via pacman, then mounting the card on a desktop and flashing a guaranteed-to-work-with uboot version from there?

The version that was flashed by the package is guaranteed to work, assuming you haven't saved an environment to the card or re-used a card for your installation that had a previously saved environment on it. I'm running out of ways to say that this U-Boot works.

You could try resetting via uEnv.txt. Create the file /boot/uEnv.txt with the contents:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'uenvcmd=env default -f -a; run bootcmd')

If that doesn't work, you need serial to see what's really going on.

On a cubox i, you can wipe your U-Boot environment variable area with:
dd if=/dev/zero bs=8K count=1 seek=48 of=/dev/mmcblk0

Maybe on uboot package add another "do you wish to...." In .install file for wiping environment?

I can confirm the boot issues with the current kernel as well: After installing kernel 3.10.17-1 (via pacman -Syu or using the current filesystem image) my wandboard won't boot up anymore.

I discovered that it occurs only if both sd card slots are populated. Remove the sd card from the slot on the carrier board and the system boots up without hassle.

Having access to the serial console, I made a screen dump of the kernel panic that occurs when two sd cards are installed.

Still getting a panic ... or more precise: The kernel still swaps the the device names with two cards installed.
mmcblk0 becomes mmcblk1 while mmcblk1 becomes mmcblk0.
