Getting WiFi on Wandboard Quad working

Postby lemoneer » Fri Jan 10, 2014 1:42 pm

I am trying to configure WiFi on the Wandboard Quad, but it would seem the hardware is not being recognized.

I have checked lsmod and it shows brcmfmac is loaded, and I have confirmed /lib/firmware/brcm/brcmfmac-sdio.bin exists. However, ip link does not list any WiFi adapters nor does lspci. The output of dmesg has information about the wired link but nothing about the wireless. I believe the kernel for the Wandboard is 3.0.35 and does not use device trees so there is nothing to configure along those lines.

Is there another step I need to take in order to enable the WiFi adapter or another avenue for testing to determine what is wrong?

I don't think it would be on the PCI bus anyways.

Thanks WarheadsSE. I agree :) it is on SDIO. I was following the the steps on the Arch Wiki after I couldn't get it running.

I am not sure why it didn't work the first time, but I rebuilt the sd card and all is well.

Steps to get the WiFi adapter recognized

Download the nvram
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'wget -c https://raw.github.com/Freescale/meta-fsl-arm-extra/master/recipes-bsp/broadcom-nvram-config/files/wandboard/nvram.txt
sudo mv -v nvram.txt /lib/firmware/brcm/brcmfmac-sdio.txt')

Rename the firmware
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'cp -v /lib/firmware/brcm/brcmfmac4329-sdio.bin /lib/firmware/brcm/brcmfmac-sdio.bin')
