Chance of running on Drobo 5N (Marvell MV78460) ?

Postby zand » Tue May 23, 2017 12:27 am

What's the chance that the Drobo 5N NAS ( would be able to run Arch Linux?

The hardware specs says it runs a Marvell MV78460, and I see a number of Marvell processors supported by Arch. The box definitely runs Linux (uname -a gives 'Linux Drobo5N 3.2.58-2 #1 SMP Tue Nov 15 10:05:59 PST 2016 armv7l GNU/Linux'). The kernel might even already have support? ( Everything looks like a normal Linux box except for the Drobo-isms.

/proc/cpuinfo looks like this:

Technically, it is possible.

What you'll need is any differences in what Drobo has changed in their kernel sources, and a functional DTS made out of that.

To help with this, you should acquire a serial terminal on the device, check the vanilla tree for such a DTS, and if not present, contact Drobo about their kernel source tarball.
