XE503C32 no crosh shell

Attempting to load Arch Linux on an SD card for dual boot.
Following the directions I went into developer mode but CTRL + ALT + T does not give me crosh shell.
Note: In Chrome OS it does not give me the option to go into linux developer mode, the option is not there. According to Chrome OS support, the Chromebook 2 does not have access to linux.make_clickable_callback(MAGIC_URL_FULL, ' ', 'https://www.chromium.org/chromium-os/chrome-os-systems-supporting-linux/', '', ' class="postlink"')
Was going to give up at that point but I see other people with this model have been successful. Trying to figure out what I am missing.
