How do I mount Arch OS partitions to Samsung Chromebook Plus

Postby Omnipoint » Wed Feb 09, 2022 10:17 pm

(Wiki Links (https://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv ... ebook-plus - - https://elatov.github.io/2014/02/instal ... hromebook/)

I’m trying to figure out how to dual boot Arch linux along with Chrome OS on a Samsung Chromebook Plus (XE513C24 -arm64) and currently I’m trying to figure out how to set up the partitions. I’ve got all the mounted points listed but the last time I tried it to create a new partition I had to reformat (about the 8th time) because I replaced Chrome OS partition. I want to install Arch dual boot in about 7/10th’s of the internal hard disk space. I think /dev/sda is referring to an external device like USB/SD card, which I might install from there, but I don’t want to create the boot partition there. I want it on the hard disk. I think /dev/mmcblk0 is where the primary is located, where’s a safe place to install a second partition for Arch?

Since archlinuxarm installation guide for Chromebook plus did not suggests to flash custom uboot, probably it is not available.

I don't think that factory uboot supported dual booting from same drive. If I am not mistaken when booting it searches kernel partition reads it attributes than tries to boot. Probably you may manipulate kernel's partitions attributes to switch between Crome-os and pure linux at same disk. It is just my assumption, i never tried it.

By default /dev/mmcblk0 -internal drive, /dev/mmcblk1 - SD/microSD, /dev/sda - usb drive.
If you want to free some space at internal drive, i suggest to backup all data from each partiton and save partitions attributes and whole kernel partition then recreate all that partitions with same sizes and redused size of data partition. To all partition actions cgpt (and dd) should be used only, otherwise uboot may not recognize it. So reading man cgpt may be required. Of course to repart internal drive booted from external is required.

As an option linux could be installed as virtual machine at Chrome-os https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6sAvwHgYwQ (it is for x86 i guess, but do not see any reasons why it should not work at armv8)

edit.
To figure out roles of partitions cgpt should be used. The largest probably a data partition
