Odroid XU3 install => "Bad Linux ARM zImage magic!"

Postby ldcm » Fri Sep 22, 2023 12:41 pm

Hi,

When I follow the install instructions:

https://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv7/samsung/odroid-xu3

It fails to boot from the emmc-on-SD-adapter with the switches set as specified.

If I put the switches both up, and directly place the emmc on the intended eMMC connector on the XU3, I drop to the
Exynos5422#
shell.

The first time it complained about the filesystem features, so I redid the install instructions, but this time making the file system with:
mkfs.ext4 -O ^metadata_csum /dev/sdX1
It still doesn't boot from eMMC-on-SD-adapter, but placed on the usual eMMC connector it gets a little further, this time complaining of bad zImage magick:
U-Boot 2012.07-00032-g57c0796-dirty (Oct 05 2015 - 17:37:11) for Exynos5422

Bad Linux ARM zImage magic!
Exynos5422 #
Any suggestions on how to boot and fix the boot partition?

I was also thinking, who wrote the install instructions? does this person remember if they were executed on an ARM system or x86 system?

is there a PKGBUILD for the tarball?

I actually believe either the instructions are incorrect, and I should either:

1) mkfs.ext2 instead of ext4 so that it is compatible with the provided uboot

or

2) get a newer uboot so that its compatible with ext4

it would seem that whoever provided these instructions did not actually test them?
