Chromebook Wifi Problems

Postby raumzeit » Tue Mar 04, 2014 5:13 pm

Hi all,

since about 3 days or so I experience heavy troubles with the Wifi of my Samsung ARM Chromebook. It loses connection and NetworkManager is not able to reconnect until I either restart wpa_supplicant.service or NetworkManager.service.

I get this in dmesg:

May this be related with the recent upgrade of wpa_supplicant package? I tried downgrading linux-firmware but it didn't help.
Unfortunately, I cant downgrade to an older version of wpa_supplicant since my pacman cache was cleaned up some weeks ago...

Anyone who can help me with this problem?

Best,

There is an ALARM A.R.M. that a mirror-owning user is hosting.

So I downgraded wpa_supplicant to wpa_supplicant-2.0-4-armv7h.pkg.tar.xz but still get the same behavior. Downgrading NetworkManager also didn't help.

But I found, that the stack trace is not always present in dmesg. This is weird. Now, I upgraded everything again to latest alarm packages and the problem seems to occur not so frequently anymore. But still I get disconnects from my Wifi where NetworkManager is not able to reconnect until I force it to restart via systemd.

How can I debug this problem? I ruled out the router, since my Wandboard has no connection problems. I didn't upgrade alarm (NetworkManager, wpa_supplicant, etc.) on the Wandboard, though...

Update: Since I was using Slim as login manager and just found that it has its problems with systemd, I now switched to lightdm. Maybe, this solves my problem. As soon as I see any differences, I report back.

Just for the record: NetworkManager still crashes in random intervals of some 10 minutes up to an hour. It then needs to be restarted to be able to connect to my AP again. This is annoying...

As a solution to the problem, I switched to wicd and everything works just fine!
